mast base hunter 23

dropping the mast last fall i broke the mast base, seems to be cast aluminum? took it to the shop in november or december, after some intervening inquiries i was told this am it is an antique part, none availible a few days before putting boat in water 1988 hunter 23 it is a 2 - 4 pound piece, inserts and gets screwed into base of mast, and forms the hinge to raise lower and secure mast; it has a coule of wheels through which the halyards are threaded any suggestions or thoughts on locating used or replacedment part woudl be appreciated aznyone have an old hunter for parts? ithaca jim

i know what you mean

but sorry, i use mine! this probably will sound like "cheating", but you could make a nice one out of good hardwood, maybe locust? you would need a 2"x4"x6" piece, and simply shape it to fit snugly inside the mase, with a 1/4" lip at the bottom for the mast to actually sit on. Then screw through the existing holes in the mast and screw the lower plate onto it. The only issue would be halyard exits. The other option is rig-rite. they have your piece (or at least, they did when i asked about it a few months ago, because i liked the halyard exits down there) it was ~ $285 and had a long lead time. Instead, i added stand-up blocks to my mast base and kept the halyard exits up high.
