I am experiencing hull creaking noises from the starboard side of my 30T. I have noticed some slight separation of the wood work in the galley from the fiberglass. This seems to be where the noise is originating from. Also, when under sail and on a port tack in 12-15 knot winds, the mast hums and creaks. It is worrisome. Any suggestions of causes of this?

Noise

Unless you start seeing cracks appear, I would not worry about the noises. A boat has to have some flexibility otherwise it will break. You want to be sure the rigging is tuned properly and the chain plates are secure. On certain points of sail and seaway conditions some boats make more noise than others. If the noise is excessive, then talk to the manufacturer, a boat builder or good surveyor.

mast noise

Sometimes my mast will creak at the bottom where it sits on the base plate. I give it a shot of wd-40 and it disappears.
