Mas-technologies instrument gauge for Yanmar

The Mas-technologies instrument that displays the Yanmar gauges on my Hunter 50 has a large brown spot on the readout as seen in the picture. The display seems to be visible under this stain and it may be mould under the glass in the case. Can the outer case be removed? I couldn’t find the company and they may no longer be in business. Has anyone seen this or know if it can be fixed. Any ideas appreciated.

I think the "spot" is UV degradation of the face.
I think it's going to require a new instrument. :(

It was fine when we left it in June and was covered continuously until I uncovered it yesterday. The inside of the cover had quite a bit of mould on it though.

Ok,
The reality is that the display was almost as unreadable without the discolouration
Just tie your chartplotter into your engjne feed, and you’ll have all your engine data in full colour in front of you

if you need directions on how to do this PM me.

btw, the plastic cover on my Teleflex guage hasn’t been off since 2000. ( when I figured out the plotter link)

Other option is to pop in a raymarine i70.
It has full engine functions, and is actually readable.

Very interesting
Never knew these guys existed
But…. The fundamental issue is that this guage was always totally unreadable.

it is a good plan to tie the engine data to the plotter. It’s a very inexpensive thing to do, and having your engine data in full color is very useful

I took the old instrument apart. You carefully peal apart the 2 pieces of glass inside. The old dark film that is inside needs to be scraped out until you have bare glass. Then cut out a new piece of polarizing film and stick it onto the glass. Check the orientation first as it will affect the display. Put it all back together and you have a new instrument and saved yourself $900. Just did mine today and it worked perfectly. Lots of polarizing film available on Amazon.

Three months later and the display is blank again. Time to hook the readouts up to the chart plotter.

The original instrument had a horrible UI, and the display was unreadable
Yes, hook up the N2K feed to the plotter.

Instruments are now hooked up to the plotter which is a much better solution.
