Thanks for the link Ross. I plan to look in from time to time.

At the time I passed for Able, tender age of 16, I was required to make my own ditty bag and demonstrate the making of a rope grommet. There were many other skills (boxing a compass to 32 points) all now lost to most sailors.

I don't get as much opportunity to employ fancy knot work as I would like.
