Hey Mark, I have been using an auto pilot the last 2 seasons. Its the best tool we/ve added to the boat. Like yourself, I dont have the remote controls and need to sit where the auto pilot is to dock the boat. The solution is simple! The auto pilot is easily removed as it sits on an anchor pin which has a brass female fitting that is flush mounted into the seat. As we motor in to the marina and get the bait ready for docking, I disconnect the auto pilot and stow it in the cabin long before we approach the slip. Then I position my posterior near the outboard motor and steer using either the tiller or the motor. The last few seconds of approach require first neutraling the motor, then reverse with revs to stop the boat (as you probably know). If the auto pilot were still in the cruise control position it would either be in the way or sat upon during final approach & stop. Regards...... Joe R.

Thanks

That helps. I did what Ron suggested and put a stick of wood where the autopilot would go. I think I can reach over it if I needed to. And, like you said, when I'd be using the autopilot, I wouldn't have any major need of fiddling with the motor.
