Mariner lead center board.

My 1972 2+2 that I just bought has had the lead center board in the up postion for the past 2years. The vessel has been in salt water and the center board has heavy barncle and rust incrustation. I have scraped the barncles from the exposed lead centerboard and tryed to force and pry it down with No results. I sprayed liquid rench around the forward bolt were most of the rust appears to be forming but it still won`t budge. Does anyone have ideas or suggestions on how to get this thing to drop down. The wench and cable are free with slack in the cable so I know this is free. Has anyone had to tackle this perdickament?Regards,Frank B.

Locking Pin??

Locking Pin? Had I mentioned I just bought this sailboat. I pulled the rod that runs through the centerboard cable wench reel that locks it in place so it is free to turn. Locking Pin would be located were on the Mariner centerboard? With my aptiude that is probably the case. Thanks CallnabFrank B

Locking pin

I bought my Mariner 2 months ago so i'm not far behind you. There is a pin that goes thru thye housing just behind the wheel that goes thru the housing and the centerboard that is holding the board up.Mine is on a trailer and when i looked at the boat and was poking around while checking it over I started to fiddle with the pin (more like a rod about a 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch thick) and the guy I bought the boat from quickly told me not to "pull that thing" it holds the board up. As I looked closer it sure does.

Hi: I just had to get into my boat.(we 60 knot winds that blew everythng around yesterday. I checked the locking pin while I was at it. he pinhas a metal ring on the port side to pull it out and slide it put it back in. Check itout. It is pretty esy to spot. It is oposit the Whel side ind close enough so you will be able to spot it.Post your experiences with the boat. I will be sailing it for the first time next Spring. My previous sailing has been boats in the 12 to 12 foot range so I'm looking forward to this move up. (My wife isn't quite as exited about it as I ambut I have hopes for her first mate skills.)
