I have a couple of holes in my fiberglass. One is all the way down to where you can see the fibreglass. The other is a just void that popped up. The both holes are above the waterline. The one that is down to the fibreglass mesh is on the deck. Should I use Marine Tex? If I do do I need to use gel coat over it to finish it off? I've never done any fibreglass/gelcoat work before and could use some help and suggestions. Thanks Paul H S/V Linda Belle

I use Marine Tex all the time

It works great. You can use gel coat to make it look prety if you like. Here are some tips I got from Sail Mag. 1. tape off the area before you fill it. 2. use a rasor to smooth off the top of the fill. 3. remove the tape and let dry. 4. re-tape and give a light sand.

Marine Tex is .....

great stuff but will turn a bit gray after exposure to weather. Gel coat it if you care about discoloration. After curing it get brittle and doesn't work well in keel hull joins but will be fine for your application. My boat goes nowhere without having a supply of Marine Tex on board

Paul It's very useful stuff. Another trick: to have the surface shiny so you don't (or may not have to use) gel coat topping - after you apply and smooth it down, cover it with saran wrap. When it cures it'll have a shinier surface. Stu
