Adler Barbour refrigeration
Our C28 (purchased 1998) came with an Adler Barbour unit , as described by Kevin. It works quite well, but is quite an Amp-hour eater. Our high ambient temps may have something to do with that. Also, the heat-exchanger unit is located in the port side cockpit locker. This is not well ventilated (as you know), and also tends to capture heat when the engine is running - which is pretty bizarre when you have to run the engine to charge the battery! We tried a 32W flexible solar panel, which certainly helps but won't entirely keep pace with the current drain. I'm looking to increase house battery capacity, but for the time being run the engine at least one hour per day when cruising. The other thing with the A-B cold unit in the icebox is that the upper part of the box never really gets better than cool - about 8 degrees C. Maybe an insulation thing, besides the cold air sinking to the bottom. On balance, I'd rather have it than not - just keep your eye on the battery level indicators!
