DIGITAL SELECTIVE CALLING The QUEST meets the Internationally recognized requirements for SC101 Digital Selective Calling. Get a command mic

I can't comment specifically on the Quest radio, but I would also gat a command mic to go with it. I have a remote mic at the helm, and I couldn't see going without one now. I am also impressed with the quality of construction of the Standard Horizon command mic compared to the ICOM mike. It seems much more robust where it connects to the plug. Standard Horizon is a division of...

Vertex (commercial radio gear) and their ham radio division is known as YAESU. I can tell you from personal experience that Yaesu radios are tough little buggers, so if Standard Horizon radios are built to the same level of quality, it would be an excellent choice. My Yaesu is a 2 meter mobile rig that is used in an open cockpit vintage Bronco for SAR work on the Rubicon Trail, and as such it has seen far more than it's fair share of abuse, including being rained on, buried in snow, extreme dust, heat, and all kinds of other things that would have sent most other radios to the scrap heap. After 7 years it is still going strong, so I guess you could say I'm hooked on the brand. Does anybody know if Standard Horizon, Yaesu and Vertex all come-off the same assembly lines?

Can't comment on Jeffs' question but

Standard Horizon is a fine company. They have always done right by me and their stuff is great.

No Ram Mic Option For Quest

I can't say for sure, but I checked the Standard web site, including a scan of the Quest owners manual, and it appears that the Quest can't be used with the Ram Mic. The only Standard unit that lists the Ram Mic option is the Intrepid+.
