Does anyone know of a marine plywood source near Wisconsin? I need to replace the bulkhead/berth supports that are fiberglassed to the interior hull on my 1986 Hunter 23.

You can probably special order marine grade plywood from a lumber yard. 84 Lumber in my area will special order and delivered in a few weeks. Marine grade uses a special glue and there are no knots on the inside or outside of the plywood. Are you certain you need to use marine grade? or did you want the wood to look good. Lumber yard or home depot might have nice looking plywod for interior use and it would be much cheaper.

There is a lumber yard in Franklin WI on HWY 100 (Ryan Rd) approx. 1-2 miles west of I94 that has a supply of Teak laminate 4x8 sheets 1/2" and 3/4". I bought a sheet of 1/2" last year and rebuilt the companion way pin boards. Looks better than new. I do not believe you will find this anywhere else.

How much do you need?
You may want to contact a local boat yard in the area. They sometimes have this in stock or may even have some from a previous job. This stuff is not cheap. If you have to pay freight on a whole sheet, it's REALLY going to be expensive.

Name of Lumber Yard in Franklin?
Thanks for the responses. X23Owner, do you know the name of the lumber yard in Franklin? I could use the 1/2" teak lam. for visible sections of the berths. The entire interior needs to be gutted. Probably need about six 4x8 sheets in total, but the bulkhead supports could be standard exterior grade.

Caleb: Do you need teak marine plywood? If not check out sign board. I believe that this is the same stuff BUT it is very smooth on both sides. If you are going to put formica on it, it would be ideal. It is made for exterior use so they are using the same type of glues. You should be able to get this from any sign shop. If you need teak plywood you are talking about big bucks ($130/sheet est)

No, not teak ...
I'm not looking for teak - too $$$. I think I'll go with 1/2" MDO, the sign material. A lot of good info on the net about using this for boat construction. About $35 for a 4x8 here in WI. Thanks all.

Nice material.
Caleb: This is very nice material. If you decide that you want to paint it, it will take paint much better than any type of plywood. If you want to use formica on it you will have a great surface for the contact cement. If you have the chance you may want to take photos of your project and post them in the photo forum.
