I recently purchased a 79/37 cutter She' a great vessel. The instrumentation doesn't seem to respond. It is a Combi System made by International Marine Instruments {IMI}. I can get it to turn on, but the readings aren't correct or not at all. It consists of digital boat speed, distance log, digital wind speed, apparent wind direction all within 1 display module in a sealed brass case. If anyone knows of this sysem or who might be familiar with it please let me know.

It sounds like the head unit.

If it displays, but the info is wrong, on all of different components, then I would guess it is the head unit. Does the manual say anything about being able to perform a hardware reset? If not, maybe the head unit needs to be serviced. If the display is not correct, like if the number '8' doesn't look like a '8', or some LCD segment is missing, then it has to be the head unit. Do you know if the display unit can be easily removed? You may be able to take the head unit and put it next to the transducer or sensor part, and eliminate the wiring as a possible cause. I believe IMI is now out of business, or it was sold to some other company and is now operating under a different name. I am sure someone is still able to service it. I just did a google search, using "IMI marine instrument" and found a company that will service it. Good luck.

re head unit

This seems to be the case { Improper readings}. Readout is a filament type and some of the filaments don't lite up making it impossible to differentiate between a 6an 8 and so on. It's a good looking piece of equipment. I did a Google search and wasn't able to come up with anything. Can you tell me who you found to service it? Thanks

Ross: Here ya go.

Well, after reading your 2nd post, I tried to google it again, but couldn't find it again. Anyway, after a few tries, I did find it. It is at another forum website. So, here it is.
