Has anyone changed out from manual to electric head? I just purchased a 28 ft O'day, purchased in the dead of winter. The previous owner stated the holding tank was flushed. Now that the warm weather is coming, well I'll let you guess. The boat will be launched on the first of June, with her first voyage to the pump out dock. Ihope after replacing the hoses, and flushing I will be able to use the v birth. Does the sanitary hose discharge make the bend necessary to make the hook up on the discharge of the head? Do you need a loop installed in the system? There is no loop now. I opened the vapor discharge hose and that let out back pressure because it was clogged. WHAT A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE THAT WAS. Well if you can help I'd appreciate it. Ahead of time I know I was wrong to not check the tank..Buyer beware...I am an idiot...What were you thinking...You should have known...I have land you might be interrested in..there I think that just about sums up those responses. mike, i don't have any hands on experience with the head you are working with, but i would like to recommend the chapter on plumbing and marine heads in Don Casey's new edition of This Old Boat. I thought he did a good job with describing the basics and common issues. Pretty informative and not dry (pun intended). I do know enough to know that odor is a common problem even with well maintained and installed systems.

Mick I also purchased a 28 last October and it is in a lot of pieces. I did it with the understanding that it was going to need a lot of work so the price was right. I just replaced all the head hoses with type 101 special order from West Marine and a new Jabsco head. During the process I replaced all the vent lines and thru-hulls. I also added a second thru-hull to the tank. This I drilled through the starboard side and placed it at the same distance forward of the sink vent as the port side head vent. "The Head Mistress's" book is worth the read. It was from there I decided to double vent and each vent goes to a separate end of the holding tank. Cross ventilation so to speak. I only wish I could use her method of fresh water flushing from the sink but the head is on the opposite side. I do have 2 fresh water tanks and was thinking of adding a Y valve from the port tank to occasionally flush the head hoses. Let me know if I can help you further. I also would recommend you replace the fresh water intake lines which I did they were very mildewed and soft. Bob
