Marinas/Ramps South of Key Largo....

We're trying to find marinas with ramps south of Key Largo down to Key West where a person could slip a boat for 2-3 days while they went north to retrieve a tow vehicle/trailer.

Anyone have any names?

State park at B'hia Honda has a ramp. Fairly tight rules so I'd check carefully. You might need to have a tent site. Reservations run well ahead. Depth could be an issue.

Good public ramps in the Keys are few and far between.. We were lucky as the condos where we used to live had a really nice private ramp with fuel and a boat store. If you can't find a friend or relative who lives down there with access to a private ramp, here is a list of public ramps you might find helpful:

PS: Also keep in mind that most every marina down there has a ramp and/or lift although they may charge you a small fee for using it. They are pretty nice down there.. just ask

Dang.. just re-read your post and realized you were looking for slips, not ramps Just ignore the above! My experience was limited to the marinas of the upper keys (Islamorada and north) so I can't comment on the ones further south.

The Marathon Marina is another possibility, but I have no personal knowledge. If you called, I'm sure they could tell you about the nearest ramps.

We once were able to talk/bribe a fork lift operator to lift our c22 on to the trailer at a marina near duck key. I have used the ramps at hawks Cay and the park at Islamerada. Both were short and very difficult to use. There is also a ramp in Key LArgo at the Holiday Marina we have used but again it was short, steep and shallow.

Sum, we used Marathon Marina (http://www.marathonmarinaandboatyard.com/) to lift our boat onto the trailer. They were very careful doing it, have a large storage area. Only charged us $117 to do it, spent 2 hrs pressure washing the bottom and cleaning our dinghy. And it saves the trailer going into the salt water. I think they had the worst bathrooms we encountered on our trip.

The state parks will not allow you to leave a vehicle there and they will not allow you to rinse the boat and trailer off after launching.

We liked the marina at Plantation Key ( http://www.pyh.com/). Very quiet, they are right there to assit in docking the boat and get you into the right slip. The have good free wifi, covered BBQ's picnic tables for free as you can not BBQ on your boat, insurance issues. They have a ramp and storage space, nice slips, best bathrooms and showers. The staff are very nice. Ask for a "houseboat" slip, only has a couple of feet of water but a very good price. It is located in a nice park area with a public beach near by, highly recommended.
