Suggestion if you're heading south....
I'm just south of you off the West River. I take my boat south singlehand, sometimes with crew, and I generally run here to Solomons, then Solomons to Deltaville, then D'ville to Norfolk. Reedvile/Smith Point isn't really needed for the route south. Solomons (50 mi) is the best stop over on the leg from here south, great anchorages and lots of marinas. If the weather is bad, I don't leave Solomons heading south until it clears. Crossing the Potomac is tough in rough weather. And none of the creeks or rivers until the Great Wicomico is deep enough for a sailboat. They're all fishing marinas in that area. Solomons to Deltaville is a great run (60 mi), can be a long day but if you want to stop off early, go into Dividing Creek, on the West shore above the Rappahannock River. Great anchorage. Just follow the guides.(On the trip north, I duck into Reedville if necessary to wait out bad weather before crossing the Potomac.)Again, IMHO, Reedville isn't really worth the long trip up the river. The only reason I do it is to wait out weather on the trip NORTH. If you do go up there, just anchor out to the east of the marina, unless you really want to dock. BTW, seafood house to the east/right, accross from down dock has great dining room for fresh cooked seafood. Well worth a dinghy ride if you're there. Yes, it's Reedville Marina, basically just the town dock. 804.453-6789. There's no dockmaster or attendant. There's restraurant there, Crazy Crab, where I think you have to pay, but both times I've stayed there no one every knew how to take the money, so I just left.Good luck.
