Possibilities to check on are: on the west (Mobile) side of Mobile Bay:
* Turner Marine (no relation)
* Dog River Marina
* Beachcomber Marina
* Fowl River Marina
Beachcomber I think is a bit cheaper and is about the only one around here that allows owner work on the hard. Good access to mechanics, canvas shops, etc. on the Mobile side.
On the Eastern Shore of the bay there's:
* Eastern Shore Marina, Fairhope
* Fly Creek Marina, Fairhope
* The Yardarm Marina on the Fairhope Pier
There are others like Grand Mariner Marina on the Mobile side, and the Grand Hotel Marina on the Eastern Shore, but their rates are reputedly higher. Down on the ICW there is a small marina at Pirates Cove in Elberta, AL and a new marina, Barber Marina, very nice with floating concrete docks but I don't know what their rates, but they're a little remote in terms of groceries, etc. There is an older marina down on the Bon Secour River that I suspect would be inexpensive but it's pretty remote; I'd have to do some research to come up with the name, I haven't been down there in awhile. The ones I've listed are near some restaurants, stores, etc. There's not too much in the way of public transportation around here. Of all the ones I've mentioned, the Yardarm in Fairhope is about the only one in close walking distance to groceries, shops, restaurants, etc., all the others are a ways out.
My 39' schooner is at Fly Creek in Fairhope. They have maybe 1-2 other slips that could take a 40' boat. Rate is $7/ft per month which includes electric and water. We're about a mile's walk into town for shopping, etc. Eastern Shore Marina across the creek from me is about the same.
This is just a quick list off the top of my head, maybe some others here can suggest others or give more info on the ones I've pointed out. If you'd like some more specifics (phone numbers, etc.) let me know.
What does your friend's boat draft? We've had strong north winds here for two days and as of this morning my boat, which draws 2'10", is sitting on the bottom. Maximum beam in any of the slips near me would be around 11'. This entire area is pretty shallow in spots, no one around here much likes more than about 5' draft.
