I'm getting closer to finalizing all the plans for moving "my" boat from Long Island to NJ. I'm leaning heavily toward having her hauled, since I am persnickety and want to go over the rigging and sails, and am not sure what electronics she has onboard, and thus don't want to risk sailing her. It's tempting, but still, in the end, I think hauling will wind up being somewhat cost-competitive to sailing (at least using my "math").
So, now the next issue is, to where do I want her hauled? If I'm going to keep her at the NJ shore (which I'm inclined to do since my in-laws have a condo in Avalon), I'd like to keep her in the Stone Harbor to Ocean City region. With that, admittedly big, limitation in mind, my thought was that having her near Great Egg Harbor would give me a chance to play in the bay while being able to "graduate" to the ocean fairly easily. It looks like All Seasons Marina in Marmora might be a good choice for my boat (an Irwin 25', with a 2'8" draft and 8' beam), but I'm open to other suggestions. My parents had their powerboats at All Seasons many years ago, and the marina looks to have gone downhill since then, but the prices are reasonable for the NJ shore, and I'd have easy access to the bay.
Does anyone have any other recommendations? I talked to Commodore Bay Marina in Avalon, whose location would be very convenient to my in-law's place, but they want over $5000 per year for a slip, which is about twice what All Seasons would charge, and I'm not sure I can justify the difference in price, plus I'd be "learning" on the ocean. Not the worst thing, but perhaps I might be better off waiting a season or two and then moving over in that direction.
I'd really like to find a good slip at someone's house, but I'm not sure how to go about finding that right now!
So, now that I've just told you my life's story...does anyone have any recommendations for reasonably priced, sailboat-friendly marinas/slips in that area?
