My reefer water pump (H380) for my Grunert system decided to give up the ghost this weekend. Could not find a replacement in the immediate area, so I've got a few days to pick a replacement. The pump that failed was a March Manf. 1.5GPM. Is March a good brand or are their other "continuous operation" water pumps that are more reliable? I can get a Shurflo rather easily, if it's a good brand. Comments? Suggestions? -Cap'n D

I went with a March pump

I also have a H380 with the same refrigeration system. Three years ago I noticed that water was barely trickling out when I had the refrigerator on. I thought it was the pump, so I replaced it with a new March pump (I spent the extra money to get their "brushless" model). After replacement, I noticed a stronger flow, but still not the amount of water that should have been flowing out. I took a garden hose and forced a stream of water through the hose leading from the pump to the outlet. Great gobs of stuff came shooting out and voila...I now have a strong, steady stream of water. As it turned out, my old pump was probably OK, but the new pump has worked great ever since it was installed. Check the hose first and make sure it's not clogged. If it's clear, then get a new March pump. They're well made and I was told that mine should last for 10 years.

Bushings shot on pump

Carl, Thanks. I did the same thing, running a hose through the line and you're right: alot of gunk was flushed out. However, I also pulled the pump to test for voltage, etc. Found that the bushings had worn out. I'm curious as to how Shurflo pumps match up to March. -Cap'n D

Shurflo wins

Looks like Shurflo wins. The pump finally died and WM had the Shurflo on sale for $20 off. Anyone with Shurflo experience? Do they last? -Cap'n D
