I have a couple of the Maptech Chartbooks. Generally they seem to be a good buy. I also have a coast pilot that doesn't give enough information for small boaters. The Embassy guides seem to offer more information. Anyone using these guides??? Some guides seem to be all advertising!!! One tells you all about where to get steaks and seafood. But nothing useful about where to anchor. I bought one guide to the keys that was worse than useless. Tom

IMHO, The Best

I have been using Embassy Guides for 14 seasons. I've used the Maine, RI/MA/NH, and CT/Long Island guides and have multiple editions of some. I have found them the best for detail (places to eat, navigation to, contacts, marinas, etc.) on ports. I have others that are general and use them as a supplement to the Embassy guides.

I have an Embassy guide for the Long Island area -

Tons of useful info. Includes photos of harbors, sample charts, where to provision, anchor, do laundry, see a movie, etc. Figured all Maptechs guides would be the same.

...I use Embassy Guide in Long Island Sound for info on harbor entrances and find them excellent and well worth the money...
