I am thinking of purchasing a Yanmar manual and would be interested in hearing opinions on the above. I would rather only purchase one of them. Which one would you choose? Is there any reason to have both?

Ken,

Why not buy the factory manual? What information are you hoping to get? You may be better off with a operations manual than a repair. Pat McCartin Inland Marine Diesel Buford, Ga imd_ga@hotmail.com

Clymer?

Pat, forgive the question, but I am confused. Is the factory manual, the Clymer manual, or does it come from the Yanmar company?

Seloc is nice

I have the Seloc manual and it is informative. You did not mention if you have any previous experience working on engines (ie your car). I found their yanmar manual much more in depth than any chilton manual I have used for auto repairs. There is also an excellent website called yanmarenginehelp.com, or something similar. Pat Mccartin could probably elaborate more. Chris

Ken,

Both Seloc, Clymer and for cars Haynes are independant companies. They purchase the given unit they are writing about. Then dissasemble/reassemble and write the book. As Cris said the Yanmar book is very indepth. If your looking for just maintainance type info, consider the Yanmar Operators manual. Several other well published writers have done basic books on marine diesels also. Pat McCartin Inland Marine Diesel Buford, ga imd_ga@hotmail.com
