I have a 2001 H-260 and it has the manual hand pump for the fresh water tank. Has anyone converted the manual pump to an electric pump? If so, I would be interested in any information you can share about how to to the conversion, what products were used, etc... Thanks Dave VEGA

Replace the pump

A small 1.6 gpm electric water pump is about $60. The plumbing part is easy and should be fairly obvious. Wiring it involves a little more because it should be on its own circuit with a separate breaker.

The first response is correct from Peggy and thank you Peggy. You can obtain those rascals from any marine store. Happy sailing Crazy Dave Condon

Manual to Electric Pump

I did the conversion using a SHURflo pump and faucet. The SHURflo faucet has the switch included on the faucet and makes a neat installation. The pump and faucet can be purchased separately or together as a kit. I had to fashion a round adaptor to cover the large hole left by the absence of the manual pump, and drill a smaller hole in the center for the smaller faucet. Alternatively, the original pump can be left in place to act as a faucet and backup in the event of electrical problems. However, if you replace the original pump with a new faucet, as I did, you will lose the check valve that is part of the original manual pump. You will then need to install a check valve or mount the pump as low as possible to avoid losing prime. Another route which you can investigate is to replace both the faucets with regular valve types and install a demand pump up forward at the water tank. Jabsco makes a demand pump which can supply two faucets for less than $50.00. If I had to do the conversion now, this would be my first choice. (Has anyone done it this way?) Hope this helps! i've also done this recently

I did this change over this past spring. I installed a "Par-Max-1 on demand" water pump made by Jabsco ($53). I mounted it right next to the water tank under the v-berth and ran the wires back to the battery compartment in the back and then up and forward to the electrical switch/fuse panel. I replaced the manual pump faucets with single water faucets (~$8 each from Home depot). I open the faucet and out comes water via pump, I turn off the faucet and the pump shuts off. I love the pump, it makes doing dishes and washing BOTH hands a breeze!! I recommend switching the power to the pump off at the panel when not on board just in case one the hoses pops off...

creature comforts

I replaced my whole galley this spring. This included a flex tank (26 gal ) and a shur flo pump. I also added a external water inlet with a pressure regulator. This makes it much more pleasent while at the slip. My new galley now has a Americast sink that holds 7.0 gal. so I do use lots of water and the larger sink allows me to do dishes in rough water as I often anchor when the area allows.Good luck!
