manual bilge pump winterizing

is it necessary to get antifreeze into a manual bilge pump to winterize it? It takes a lot of antifreeze in the bilge to get it up and into the manual bilge pump. Auto bilge pump does get antifreeze pumped thru it to winterize. Thanks!

On mine the intake to the manual bilge pump is a hose that I can dunk into a jug of antifreeze. Can you attach a hose to your intake tube?

In 17 years I have never put antifreeze in either the electric or manual bilge pump. It is my belief that the pumps drain back into the bilge. I will allow that there could be a low point somewhere, but I have never experienced a problem. YMMV.

Never seen in mentioned in any of the reading I've done, never seen it mentioned in the installation insturctions and never did it.

Same here in 30 years! And it does freeze hard in Toronto.
