Manson Supreme - first anchoring

I never get that sudden hard jolt when the anchor sets - I have the 8-Plait anchor rode and when I throw my engine in reverse (and I can be almost full throtle) all that happens is that I keep stretching my rode further and further and further. Its truly like a rubber band.

Sometimes when the winds are light and I rev the engine in reverse to set the anchor, if I take the gas off the throttle abruptly the boat will almost shoot forward like a sling shot

But in heavy rough conditions this is a real plus & one of the great features of the 8-Plait rode, if you have huge storm surge or heavy hard winds, much of the energy being applied to the boat goes into stretching the rode and not directly to the anchor dug into the bottom so you are less likely to drag or pull out your anchor

I told you about the mud ball Jim. that is why I just got done installing my wash down pump last week-end. We sleep much better at night with the Manson. I too watch the swing of it when retrieving to avoid the dings in the hull. How did you windlass do with all that weight? 45 lbs of anchor, the chain and all that bay mud. T

I bought a 35# Manson Supreme from JSI off of Ebay a few months ago. I use 100' of 5/16 HT chain and 250 ft of three ply 5/8 rode. When I anchor I want to stay PUT. When I wake up in the morning I want to be in the same spot. I trust my Manson to do that. It's one less thing to be concerned about after a full day on the water. And, that's my story!

But then again I completely rebuild the windlass over the winter. Had no problem once it the boat pulled it free of the bottom. Just came up normally then I saw the mud ball and started laughing - remembering what you had said.

We went out this last weekend for our first overnighter on the new-to-us boat. It was a wonderful sail and evening with the kids (3.5 yrs and 1 month old). I had the danforth on that came with the boat but I kept having the feeling that we were slipping a little bit. It was pretty late when I finally said I wouldn't be able to sleep as is and we pulled up the danforth and unpacked the Manson supreme and hooked it up.

The difference was instantaneous. As soon as I backed down on it, it set so well. I slept much better that night.

Getting the anchor back up was a little challenging, but worth the sleep. A washdown pump will probably be on my list soon.

I too had the same experience with our new Manson. Backed down on it and it was obvious how well it set! I know I'll be sleeping well this summer.
