In a completely inconsequential event that has already captured the imaginations of thousands, amateur sailor Michael Gilmer, 29, announced Monday he would be embarking on a sea journey around the world to actively decrease awareness of significant global issues.

Gilmer's expedition, which will cover approximately 28,000 nautical miles and bring absolutely no exposure to any urgent environmental or social causes whatsoever, is expected to last roughly 90 days and draw millions of eyes around the world directly away from events of actual, crucial import.

"I hope to use my lifelong love of sailing to take part in a completely irrelevant novelty stunt that in no way benefits humanity," Gilmer said

You just have to have the courage(balls) to ask.... and a thick enough skin not to be hurt when rejected..... Salesmen, politicians, panhandlers......... all have that ability.... talk to enough people and ask for the sale........ eventually, you will find someone willing to part with their money.

I want nothing to do with the "help me follow my dream" crowd. If I can't afford something I live without it.

I love it. I am weary of those who take trips around the world to "raise awareness" of one cause or another. I have always suspected those causes to be an excuse to get others to fund the journey.

I just like the whole concept of 'actively decreasing awareness'. Rather like saying, 'I am going to make you not think of ocean pollution' --as soon as you hear it, you think of it.
