Making Water with a 170

I own a 170 from the first production year. There have been a few post-production "tweaks" like a new rudder support and new drain plug seat. I've also had the built-in cupholders (which are no longer being used) re-caulked. I swear it's making water! We keep it on the trailer parked near the ramp we launch from. Before every sail we drain a significant amount of water. After we sail the boat seems to be dry. It seems to be totally independent of how much rain we've had, too. Any thoughts? Has anyone else had this problem?

Leak

Tom; Call Hunter Marine and ask for Gregg in Warranty for my new number and location. I am wracking my brains so lets start with the cup holders. Is there any seperation of the cup holder from the seat. My first thought would be the seal may be broken again. The next items would be any fittings that may not be sealed properly. Check those. I also want you to look in the forward storage area specifically, the lip under the blue cover and advise if you see any holes. Once you have done this, call me and lets discuss.

Check the hoses

Tom: When removing the cup holders to recaulk did you replace the hoses which lead to the drains as well? The cup holders were originally installed before the deck and hull were bonded (which makes for much easier access). The original hoses are probably not long enough to reconnect by hand through the hole in the deck. Most likely, a drain hose is disconnected somewhere and the collected cup holder water is draining directly into the hull. I would remove the cup holders and hoses again, get new hoses that are atleast 2 feet longer for each one and re-install. The extra length should allow you to connect both ends before re-seating the cup holders.

Thank you for the input which probably you are correct on that one. Hey, do you like tall blonds?

Hoses are a good thought

JY came down from CT and recaulked the cup holders on warranty. My wife was home when it was done. I'll ask about the drain hoses. I recall they were pretty darned short, and not well attached. I'd feel better with a hose clamp. Dave, the only open holes (other than the cup holders) are two holes in the forward bulkhead where the hinged cover offered the first year would have attached. They're vertical, so I don't they they're a factor. I could fill them and settle the issue, though.
