LOL! big or small, almost any sailboat is more fun than just motoring along. Find a first boat that is a brand name, in good ready to sail condition. when you are ready to go larger, if you have been a good sailing ambassador, you will have friends wanting to buy it.
welcome to the good side! have fun!

You can do a search on one of many boat selling websites for sailboats in that price range - and there will be many. But if you read enough ads you will start to learn the market. You can readily post an ad here if you find something interesting and you will get an earful. For what you are describing I would think you should look at the regular names, Pearson, O-Day, Catalina, Beneteau, Hunter, S2 (Just look at what boats are featured on forums - they mostly have stood the test of time and are successful designs).
As for your question about buying the last boat first, I think most of us would tell you it's best to learn on a small responsive boat. But lot's do it the other way and it can work fine.
Don't buy a pig sailboat - it's just a bad powerboat.

I have been searching boats for sale for a few months, this way I will have an idea of what to expect when I am ready to buy. Something like this http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/198...72599/Westbrook/CT/United-States#.VFVwWDotA5t I would get a good survey making sure hull and keel are in good shape. I would have enough money to fix her up for what I want with electronics and all lines leading to cockpit etc: and still be in my budget. They are just my dreams right now, but dreams are not far off fantasies that never come true, and please GOD mine will materialize in the next year or two.

that looks like a nice boat ...i do like the rear head ... you might go look soon ......and the price is very good for a 32 footer in that shape...not saying buy it but give lots of consideration....and compare it to others in that size and equipment

PS: when talking to them make sure you listen close to what is said and also what is not said ..and when you don't hear something being said that you would like to know about make sure you ask them and get answers ..and it would be good on your part to keeps notes ....good luck

A bing for Woodster because what is not said is way more important than what is said. In any sales situation the seller tries to control the message. The buyer has to get past that and not let the seller run the deal.
