This spring I noticed one of the boats near to me in the yard go from dull to shiney between my visits. I asked the owner yesterday what he had used and he showed me- Armour All! I have never come across anyone using Armour All on the topsides before. The boat is not new and the gelcost was pretty dull. Now it looks great. Anyone else tryed it- any downside?

Unless they've changed the stuff, it won't last

It washes off. It doesn't even last more than a few weeks on tires. And when it goes, it'll look bad doing it. Not for gelcoat.

Pentrol might be a better answer

The armorall will not last more then a week or two. There is a product called Penatrol that can be purchased at a paint store or home improvement store. This is a product that will penitrate fiberglass and restore alot of the lesture. You might have to apply two coats to get an even coverage. This is also only a temporary fix but it should last 6-9 months.

If for no other reason

Armoral is very slick, don't attempt to use it on deck! Best idea, if there is gelcoat remaining, a light sanding with 600 grit or finer wet/dry sandpaper, used wet with a container of water, with a bit of dish detergent will get the chalk residue off the hull, follow that with a good paste wax, like collinite. Lots of work, will last all season.

Metal Clean

Only sold on the internet. It's a paste. Great results.

poli glow

i have used this on several boats, easy to use, looks very good and lasts about a year. depending on the size of the boat a single kit will do you.they say one kit will do a 32 ft boat, i did 2 hunter 23s with one kit and still have about a 1/4 of the bottle left and they were both 1985 vintage hunters so were quite chalky. you can only get this stuff on the internet, poliglow.com i think.
