For some time, I've been mailing photos to sailors interested in building a sturdy, inexpensive bowsprit for their 29/30 Hunters. The bowsprit does a great job throwing an asymetrical spinnaker out from the mainsheet, preventing blanketing and opening up slightly more angle downwind. Here is one photo to get you started. For more photos, email me directly and I'll transmit all six. (HOW only allows one photo here, evidently) bodonovan@vagazette.com

Bill how about the photo forum?

If you'll post the article in the Photo forum, you can post all of the photos plus accompanying text. Looks like a bowsprit of the J boat variety. Please post all of the photos.

I wonder what the weight of such a system would weight not to mention the location of all that weight. Cliff

Done!

Photos re-posted as "Bowsprit photos grouped." Weight is simply 2 pipes x 8 feet = 20 lbs.

stem fastening of bowsprit?

Bill, the photo forum article shows how the aft end of the bowsprit is fastened down. How about at the bow? What do you do with the bowsprit when not in use? What is the extended dimension forward of the stem? How stiff is the assembly in a brisk wind? How about a couple more photos plan and elevation of the finished and installed assembly? Thanks for sharing this interesting concept.
