Like so many others, I am cleaning and waxing the hull. My question regards the stripe at the water line. Mine is sort of a hazy blue (perhaps it is suppose to be that way - bought the boat last Fall). Although I apply wax (3M Cleaner & Wax), the color does not come back to blue. Any suggestions? Funny you should ask

I have a '94 29.5 with a big blue stripe along the water line too. Every season, I usually apply rubbing compound and rub it out before waxing the hull (removes the oxidation). Meguiars makes a good product for this. I will be doing this tomorrow in fact. Good luck out there...

Stripe

I was frustrated with the same problems and ended up wet sanding the stripe (and hull) with #600 sandpaper to remove oxidation and restore the color. There was a lot of gelcoat on the boat but I was careful not to go through it. I followed up with Poliglow which made the boat look new and lasted for years

3M Finesse it

I have the same issue with the blue stripe on our 460. I have a high speed buffer and use 3M Finesse it (heavy duty compound. It brings back the original blue color. I then applied two coats of wax - I use Dolphite Liquid. Will have to do this annually. I got a price of $25/foot to Awlgrip the stripe. Awlgrip will not fade nearly as easily as the blue gelcoat.

Blue is tough!

Good answers here. Blue is one of the toughest colors to keep from oxidizing and fading. Ever put it on a house? It'll last half the time of any other color. Look around at many O'Day's. The ones that are cream color. The blue trim is always faded. One of the owners may be able to give you the answer you are looking for. BTW, many Hunter's have bluish-grey as the standard waterline color. Mine does. :)

Just painted mine

Got tired of having a tired looking stripe. Tried everything and finally gave up, Sanded, primed and two coats of Toplac. Still need to buff it out, from 15' it looks great, up close, its ok. Russell
