Catalina 27 owners, I'm about to become a owner of my first Catalina, a 1986 C27. The survey noted some mositure around the chainplates (pretty common on all 23 year old boats). Because of that, it looks like my first job will be to reseal the chainplates. Now my question... I did alot of climbing around the boat, but did not note how the lower shourds are anchored? Are the lower shourds attachments thru bolted to the inside of the hull? Are they easily accessible from the inside?

Shrouds are terminated under the deck with a large, "L-shaped" piece of aluminum as a backing plate inside the hull. Should be very obvious. Stays (go to the top of the mast) are backed up by a stainless strip bolted to the bulkheads.

Good Luck!

Chainplate rebedding

Many association websites have very good chainplate articles. Here's ours, and your particular physical arrangement may be a tad different, but the concepts are the same. Plus: DON'T ever seal underneath, it'll trap water IN the deck, which is what ya wanna avoid. This article shows sealant underneath, but note that he's completely sealed the deck voids with epoxy.
