The Deck on my 81 H27 is still pure whie, But beginning to get chalky. Every year I spend more and more time waxing. The glass is just sucking it up. I don't know alot about sealents and waxes (It is just about the only area that I admitt I know absolutely nothing about) I know the gel coat is shot. I want to make it look great this year. I am trying to restore my boat as best I can over this winter and really need knowledge on this subject.

Poli Glow

Try Poli Glow, it worked for me on a 86' 23. It does not make the deck slippery as does wax, and applied easily to the non-skid. www.paradigm-products.com

Non-Skid Polish/Protection

I have found and used Aurora Sure Step as a polish for the non-skid areas on our H-33.5 (1990). It was evaluated by Practical Sailor with very good results. I also have been very satisfied with it. It is sold by Boater's World. Aurora also has a cleaner for the non-skid called Boat Scrub. I have used that also with very good results. For the smooth Gel Coat, I use the Dolphinite Color Restorer & Compound, followed with Dolphinite T-Wax. I have been very satisfied with those also. They are also available at Boater's World and other places. Dick C. S/V Puffin

Poly Glow is great except

for areas which get a lot of foot wear. I did the hull, cockpit and cabin top on my ' 78 C22 and it mostly held up great. The only area that did not do well was the lip of the cockpit seats, where you braced your feet. This tended to get darkened, and look bad. I don't know if you would have a similar problem on the deck.

Poli Glow

John: Poli Glow is maintained with Poli Glow. It is not a wax!!! Wax actually removes the surface gelcoat, Poli Glow seals the surface and inhibits furthur chalking that is caused by air and UV. Wax does not!!!!

The reason that your gelcoat is "sucking up" the wax is that the chalkiness is not just superficial but down deep in the pores. This is explained (with pictures) very well on our website www.IslandGirlProducts.com. Island GLril kits are a complete "system" for mainenance, restoration and preservation of new and old marine plastics. The same few products in the kits do everything, gelcoat, non-skid, vinyl cushions, fenders, dorades, inflatable boats etc. For your boat (bing white) I would use SEA GLOW to first dissolve away both superficial and deep-seated chalk, stains etc AND INHIBIT FURTHER OXIDATION withthe built in anti-oxidants. On decks, mildew growth is also inbhited. The SEA GLOW also has a strong fluorescent agent that will make the white gelcoat (or other "bright colors" really light up. Of course you do need to then seal the surface. Regular wax (I like Collinite) really needs a foundation sealant (SILKENSEAL) but Sealand and wax are now present in one product called SIMPLY BRILLIANT Superwax. Unlike an acrylic sealant( Polyglow, verglas, TSRW,, new glass- latter sold on this web site and equally rated with polyglow), SB Supewax does not need six coats or special applicators (use paper towel) and can be applied in the water or even in rainy conditions because it is almost instantly waterproof. By contrast water-based acrylics (as above) will bloom or be washed off under these conditions. Finally, acrylics, though long lasting if properly applied (and can be used over SEA GLOW) do tend to flake or yellow. They also get down into the pores and cannot be properly removed except by wet-sanding. As for non-skid decks - there has been great discussion in this forum. Some people use water based acrylic floor treatment ("Future")actually the grand daddy of all the water-based gelcoat coatings. Aurora make a similar "polish". We have a spray on non-skid sealant to be launched formally in the New Year. In the meantime, anybody buying our Christas Special (send e-mail address for latest IG newletter) can get either a discount (mailed or telephone orders) or a free sample of non-skid sealant to try - enough for a cockpit or foredeck. Next week you should also hear about our "Gift Certificates". Hope this is of some help and thanks for stimulating some interesting discussion! Incidentally does anybody know how to contact the testers at Practical Sailor? Thanks Jim W Polyglow is an

Thanks.

Thanks everyone for your input. After reading all the advise and links you have sent me I decide to go with the Island girl system. I just orderd 2 delux sets from HOW (One for dad for X-mas even though he is a "Powerboater" now. I hope the non-skid stuff comes with it to. That way I can give a total and true opinion about the product. It should be good to see how the stuff works a fast hull as compared to my H27. (We usually do ower hulls, decks, and such simultaneously). Once again Thanks. _/)_/)_/)_/)_/)_/)_/)_/)_/)_/)_/)_/)_/)_/)_/)_/)_/)_/)_/)
