Is there a device that I can buy (or make) that will prevent the mains'l slugs from falling out through the wider opening in the mast whin I'm raising the sail? This is driving me nuts trying to find something like that but I wouldn't even know what to call it. Thanks, Sailorfoot

"Sail Stop"

If I recall correctly, you are looking for a "sail stop" - basically, a clamp-on device that fits in the mailsail track and tightens up just above the opening. I've attached a link to one at Boaters World. Here's a link to the same product at West Marine: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=72099&catalogId=10001&classNum=272&subdeptNum=11208&storeNum=2 Good Luck! It's called a clamp

Use one of those stainless steel hose clamps around the mast just above the slot opening. I think a 8" clamp will do the trick. They should sell them at the marine store. Make sure it is stainless steel. enjoy, Ted

I need to clarify the question

I'm talking about where the track gets wider, where you feed the slugs into the mast. Let's say I have the sail flaked on the boom. In order to raise the sail, I still have to get my girlfriend to stand up by the mast as I'm raising the sail and put the slugs back into the track after they fall out of the opening that I fed the slugs into in the first place. Does that make sense? I can't think of any other way to explain it. Thanks, Sailorfoot

Like Tim said

You want a sail stop. It locks into the track and prevents the sail slugs from going into the fatter channel below and falling out. There is also a product called a "mast gate" that some people use. It fills in the fatter channel so that it becomes just the same width as the rest of the channel. Some people make them out of door thresholds from a hardware store and some people buy them. If you search the archives for "mast gate" you should find out more about them. I just use a sail stop as Tim suggested and it works fine. Randy

Associations for special info per boat size

You can use the associations for many kinds of questions: it works like this WWW.Catalina BOAT SIZE. org sometimes no spaces, sometimes C22 or C320, be creative, you'll find it. Many more detailed issues for individual boats on the individual associations. Good luck, Stu
