I am interested in installing a main sheet traveller on a 1995-29.5. I assume it would install on the top of the pedestal but would be limited in width. Given the width limitation it may not provide the benefit for the investment. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Cheers! Chet

It does provide a benefit

I have one as well as a solid boom vang. The combination of the two gives more benefit than just the traveler. I believe my '95 29.5 came with the small mainsheet traveler standard.

My 97 H29.5 had one...

on the cabin top. It was raised up to clear the hatch and sat just forward of the companionway hatch and the raised white section where instruments could be mounted. Allowed a lot of width that way and made it very useful. Seems this was a late run change. Perhaps Hunter could help with parts?

A must have...

I replaced the stock u-bolt with a Harken traveller and found it made major difference when trimming that big roach sail. It was well worth the effort. I cheated a little by cantilevering the traveller end blocks past the pedestal width to maximize the adjustment range. I considered the cabin top traveller but backed off when Hunter told me that the standard boom absolutley needed to be upgraded to a reinforced boom. Expensive. The loads on a mid boom traveller system are much greater than an end boom system. Pick a Harken catalog. There are charts that help understand the loads. I believe that both the pedestal traveller and the cabin top traveller systems were Hunter installed options for the 29.5. Contact Hunter. I am sure they will be very helpful.

Hey Chet,

Looks like Bob edited out the part about his traveler being mounted on his pedestal. But I'll be your witness. I saw it too. :)

My traveler is mounted on the pedestal.

It's really very handy and allows one to dump air in a hurry if wanted. I suspect that there was some beefing up of the pedestal and deck mounts for the pedestal. It's mounted right behind the grab rail. It's a Schaefer traveler.

Larry, it looks to be only a foot long.

Your right, it has all of the components to be called a traveler except the needed track. You paid for all the 'stuff' but that is NOT a traveler. It can't travel. Bazaar!

It does

I love it and the travel is short but enough for thje large main I use it to point higher than most boats can handle I sail with a Catalina 28 marl two and I can alwayse point higher than she does.
