Mainsheet system on the old 22' 1973 Oday.

A little advice here please, I'm going through an old 22' 1973 Oday regrettably my Mainsheet system is in a shamble, missing line and blocks that have seen better days. Being relatively new to all this it's rigging is still somewhat of a quandary to me. Does someone have a good photo of the Mainsheet system and blocks used and how it is rigged on the 1973 model? D&R marine does have the Mainsheet w/block for the 22' Oday but I don't think it's for the 1973 model... not sure if it would be compatible. Thanks for any information.

First, do you have a triangle plate on your backstay? I have a '73 22 and I do not, the plate setup was added later I believe and is different then my rigging...

I have 2 photos which show the boom attachment and the port side mainsheet control with cam cleat - the starboard side is just a single block on a swivel.

The pictures aren't real good for showing the setup but its all I have. I'm going to the boat this afternoon and can take some better pics if you need them.

Nice photos, your system looks just like mine if I had the lines running... no plate. It would be great to see a close up photo of each attachment point to get an idea of how the line runs, but at your convenience. Also what size line is used and how long? I know there will be lots more questions as I go along... so thanks to all.

How about a good diagram?
I would guess the line was 3/8" since that was what our old CAL 21 used, length was 50' for a very similar mainsheet rig.

Sheet is 50ft. Pic shows diameter 3\8in I think.

Boom is hoisted up higher than normal because I was removing the motor and needed it out of the way.

Boom attach point allows the boom to rotate freely for the boom reefing feature (rotating the boom to shorten sail) - it's not a good way to reef and I don't use it because the sail has reefing points.

Posted from my phone, not sure how to edit a post so here's a pic of cam cleat I missed. Not real clear, thought it was a better shot. To attach the sheet to the becket I spliced a loop in the line - easy to do and makes a strong and attractive connection. Not a very good shot of that either...

Thanks for going to the trouble of taking the extra photos... just what I wanted/needed to see. There are a lot of good old boats out there and our older 1973s are counted among them.

No doubt. Although lightly rigged (because it's trailerable) it's a surprisingly capable boat, yet easy and forgiving to sail. Upwind performance is hindered by the lack of a swing keel, but then we don't have any of the maintenance concerns with that either - its a well designed boat.

Kpgraci- I like your setup for the Autohelm. What is that black piece it is attached to? Is it custom?

No. Its sold in a mounting kit. This is the cantilever mount. I have it hooked up to my laptop which has a chartplotter and it can follw routes I enter in seaclear. The autotiller wss the single best addition (and the most expensive).
