I have recently purchased a 1973 O'Day 22. The boat is rigged except the mainsheet. Can Anyone tell me how the mainsheet is configured through the boom, aft port and starboard blocks/cleats? The original instruction sheet that came with the boats documentation isn't entirely clear to me. My fax is (617) 789-4421. A diagram would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Mainsheet runs like this:

With the system you and I have, it goes like this: The sheet is secured to the "tie off" of the port cleat/block assembly. I use a simple bowline knot. It goes from there: 1) through one sheave of the boom block, 2) through the single starboard block, 3) back through the other sheave on the boom block, 4) then through the port block sheave, 5) then through the jam cleat on the port block, and 6) into your hand. I like our system. Others have a triangular plate on the running stay, with a block attached, and no blocks on the transom. I think this, later, system was to get the lines out of the crew's way... but they don't bother me in operation. Rich.

I faxed you a diagram...

Larry... I faxed you a diagram. If you did not get it, I can scan it, and e-mail it to you. Rich.
