UK Sails is indicating that the mainsail for my 1997 26X is reached the end of it's useful life.

Any suggestions on where to shop for a new/used 1997 26X mainsail?

My 1990 H-33.5 has it's original Mainsail & Jib (110 Lapper) and They are still fine and in use. Although being in New England (RI) they only get used about 4 months or so eaach year. Find a good local sail Loft and have them check it out and give you an assessment.

Thank you - that's what UK Halsey IS - the local sail loft. :D

It's no longer useful to them as soon as it is paid for. I would get a second opinion form a disinterested party.

Thank you - UK Halsey did not sell it to me (Doyle sail) - they wash and repair it each year. :D

Sounds like you already have a relationship with the local loft, so at least have discussion and get their opinion on what type of mainsail might be best for you. cloth weight, types of battens, draft stripes, number of reef points, based on the type of sailing you regularly do..and have them visit your boat & measure your rig for best fit, best value and best performance.

However, If you feel cost is more an issue than perfect fit; I would recommed Bacon Sails, but more for Genoas and Jibs.

I personally feel a mainsail SHOULD be custom designed and measured for your specific mast , boom & mast pre-bend and type of sailing you intend to do most.

You might try Yager Sails (www.yagersails.com) if you want it built custom at a reasonable price. Don built sails for both my boats...he has customers on both coasts, but is centered in the Northwest. He builds from scratch if you send him the measurements on your mast, boom and tell him what you would like the sails to do performance wise.

Thank you. Uk Halsey is "a" local loft, but in an area of 3+ million, their customer service is a bit weak. Sent in sails in Oct, just now getting them back.

I like Bacon Sails a lot, from what I'm seeing. :D
