I just got this boat - a Catalina 310. I've been sailing an older, simpler model for a while. Anyway, I finally got the boat to my lake, and was going on my inaugural sail yesterday, and the mainsail stopped short of being all the way deployed. I'm sure it's an adjustment, I just can't figure out where. It goes up about 80% of the way; at that point, the line that runs through the second grommet on the leech, back to the boom is tight, and won't allow the sail to be raised any further. I loosened the boom lift, and it was no help. Can some of you more experienced sailors tell me the right adjustment?

Release the clutches on Reef one and two lines ...then work your way around the main sail loosening the lines till free.

thanks, Paul - I thought it was the reefing system, but all lines are loose. Any other suggestions?

Dutchman lines

If you have the Dutchman furling system, they may be too tight. The can be undone at the boom or if lucky, just rotating the topping lift double line through the cam cleat at the end of the boom will provide enough relief to raise the main.

Paul, you were exactly right - I went back to the boat an walked out ALL of the reef lines - thanks for your good advice; I've been meaning to come back and post this.

Paul, you were exactly right - I walked out ALL of the reef lines and found one that was bound up. Thanks for the help; just thought about letting you know. Thanks.
