Mainsail Slugs?

I'm getting tired of popping plastic sail slugs every season. The Harken Battslide system is looking awfully attractive, but expensive. Does anyone have any experience with some type of stronger lower friction mast slug replacement? Thanks -- as you can tell, I'm getting the winter's projects lined up! Have you considered a Strong Track

Harvey, There was some discussion in the Ask an Owner forum regarding Strong Track as well as some pix in the photo forum. From what I gather it looks like an insert in the mast track to reduce friction. I would think this would be mush less expensive than a Battslide system. I was going to put this on my list of things to do but there are other priorities first (like furler and spinnaker) Good luck, Jim Covey s/v Wampeter

New Slugs

I had the same problem with my 1992 H23 - After I popped 2, a local sailmaker replaced all of them for about $40 with ones that are reindorced with stainless steel. Good Luck. gary Bridi

sail slugs

We have 1989 h23 not an abnormal problem with sail slugs, we keep track clean and lubbed with sail kote, also did replace a few this spring with some heavier slugs and found out that our sail track gets narrower as you move above goose neck do not know if this is usual or not, but tried it at dock and got sail half way up and things got tight , I removed offending, slugs and did some light sanding , they work great and are strong, good luck Mike B
