Mainsail halyard line

I have a 1987 Catalina 36 which requires a great deal of effort to raise the main even when heading up and releasing the main sheet and vang. I suspect that at some time the halyard line had been replaced with a line that is too big for the shivs. What would be the correct size halyard line for this boat??

The store on this forum lists a 7/16 line size for a 36mkii. Your model may differ.
