I have a 30' Catalina and need a mainsail. Looking at a mainsail furling. Does anyone have experience with this?

You will lose a lot of sail area and performance...your choice...Ugh. it isn't that big a sail..I'd go with a real mainsail.

I think that is a good choice...;)

If it were me, I'd get them to build it max roach with two full length battens at the top & two "overlength" battens in the bottom (not full, but longer than the standard ~36" battens).

I told my sailmaker, "make it just big enough the top batten won't hang up on the backstay when I tack"...and that was about perfect for me.

The C-30, while a great boat, is heavy, & by today's standards a little under powered....you don't want to skimp on sail area if you can avoid it. Most furling main systems remove lots of sail area by necessity to make it work, unless you dump money into a Leisure Furl, which is what I personally call a "luxury boat" item.

If you are looking for a way to help with sail handling, look into a set of lazy jacks. Another alternative is a "Dutchman System"..but I still think that is too complex (& $$) for a C-30 mainsail.
