Sharks up this way is nothing new. We fished the shark tourment out of the vineyard for many years, great white & tiger sharks are pretty common down near the cape.
They just hang out with those warm water eddies that spin off the gulf stream.

We used to see mako's every now & then out on jeffery's tuna fishing, blue sharks are very common in our waters up here.

I think because of all the bruhaha this year of seeing sharks, folks are paying more attention to their surroundings.

Blue Shark. Who said warm water = sharks?
With the water soooo warm more people are jumping in, I even thought about checking the bottom. I hope Rich from RI doesn't jump in, he just sent pictures from that spot.
Misfits, what kinda leader do I need for those bad boys, I hear they're good eatin.

We've caught blue sharks on 300 # mono leaders but if you're targeting sharks, wire is the way to go. Maco sharks are good eating, Blue sharks are awful, their meat is like mush.

AuG,

That looked like a bull shark to me pal.

They are all over in left coast Florida.
This is the one I hate the most.

They are very agressive, territorial and like to set up shop in the same area.
I do alot of diving/spearfishing & we have problems with these guys & the occasional equally agressive tiger shark.

I've seen divers @ the surface throw their fish stringers at them just to get to the boat. We had one such incident just north of the Sheridan wreck. It was a close call for my friend Doc. Bill & I put powerheads on our guns and went after this bastard. I missed & bill grazed him but he got away.

I am on a site called http://www.spearboard.com/ & there are alot of threads on these guys & what they cause.

If it is a Bull, caution everyone not to get in the water. We had a couple attacks in my area recently where two people died. Both times it was a bull, both times it was late afternoon & early evening while still light. If a school of fish is hanging at the marina, beware of a bull shark.
