I need a recommendation for a destination this weekend. Something near Quahog Bay, Cundy's Harbor, Popham Beach . . . that general locale. An island with a protected cove and trails that we can explore would be nice. Tim, Mainsail, Roger, All_U_Get . . . anything? This will probably be our last overnight of the year and I have a three day weekend. We could probably make it back to Damariscove Island. All this can fall thru on an instant if my I can't get my kicker going on Friday.

I can't help with the destinations, but reading your post gave me a startle! I "read" that you would cancel if you couldn't get your "ticker" started! I'm glad you are only concerned about the OB motor.
Best Wishes for a good 3 day weekend. Phil

Hi dscribner,
We did the Basin as a trip in the past and always enjoyed relaxing with the other cruisers there. It's across from Cundys Harbor if you can get by the lobster pots. Snow island, which is near Great Island Marina is also a good place to anchor and a bit closer for you.

To add onto All-U-Gets great suggestions, you can sneak in behind Hermit Island and it's a beautiful spot. Enter at mid tide, rising, and watch how the working boats go in and out carefully as the shell bar (sand bar made of clam & muscles shells) moves slightly from year to year. It is in the cruising guide how to enter..

You can tie the dinghy up at the Hermit Island dock and do some hiking. There are great trails and pocket beaches..

Great suggestions. Not much hiking in quahog bay near snow island. I think you can do some hiking from the basin but I have no first hand experience there.

Jewel island is always a great place to hike and explore. And this is a great time of year to go there.

Thanks guys,

I've had my eye on the Basin, I'll look into Hermit Island too. I've been to Jewell often. It's one of my favorite spots, just a little closer than I want this time. It's two hours from Damillo's (sp), perfect for an afternoon sail and to arrive before Merlot time. Trails perfect for a two mile run. We can make it to Damariscove Island in about 7 hours (maybe less) and another hour to Boothbay, but I'm thinking just a little closer.

Hey, Mainesail, per our previous discussion, I got caught by my first lobster pot. I figure th warp caught on my keel, slowed the boat and rolled her to starboard before it let loose. It was as what-the-heck moment then I put two and PI together.

If you think of any other places, please keep'm coming!

Don
