I am having a senior moment. I saw a upside down horseshoe device that you attach the main sheet to that gets the main sheet out of the companion way. Can't locate where I saw it or what it is called.:confused: It attaches to the deck in front of the companion way and the main sheet attaches at the top.

Help! Thanks.

It sounds like it might be the vang attachment that was used when mainsail roller reefing around the boom was popular, but it gave a poor shape and dropped out of favour....Robin

Looks like a padeye... (an eyestrap is stamped, a padeye is welded.) Using a quick release shackle for the mainsheet connection will allow you to easily disconnect it when you want it out of the way. At some time in the future, you may consider installing a "traveller"... It will make your sailing better and allow you to simply push the boom and mainsheet to the side when not in use.

Thanks for the input. Was thinking about installing a traveller.
I searched for travellers and saw one that will do the job. (Thanks jbrock for the photo)
Joe, your boat looks like mine, except it's in the water. LOL

Sorry to mislead you, that's not my boat. I sail a Catalina 27. That's just a picture I found when I googled "Macgregor 26d. BTW, That bridge deck is the perfect place for an efficient traveller.... The older 26's are nice sailboats. You can upgrade alot of the rigging and add the traveller, perhaps some adjustable leads and a few other things to give you a pretty seaworthy little vessel. Too bad they changed them later..... ugh.
