Hoping to make a deal in the next 24 hours or so on a 310. Thanks for all of the help on the "Purchasing a 310" thread. Those of you who knew me from the 30 forums, know that I ask alot of questions when buying! But then again, that boat was a 1979 and needed crazy work.

I just have a question about the main salon dinette and converting it into a sleeping berth. It did not look like there was a wa to do this. The broker was not sure if there was a conversion kit available from Catalina or there is a secret way of converting it as it stands. Was the berth an option or am I missing something? If there is none, is there a way to make one so when my kids decide to join us they dont have to share with the 6 year old?

Thanks for everyone's help. I will be posting more as settlement gets closer and I have her in my possession! :)

This question has come up a few times over the years and I believe that there is no easy solution such as a kit.

As a liveaboard, I've been looking at that too. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to get another small table, mount a piece of particle board or plywood to it and get another table pedistal and cut it to the corect height, then just use the other seat. may be a gap on one end or both, but it should work.

I recall seeing a charter captain who owns and charters his 310 who did a mod to make a bunk for himself on the dinette by installing a shorter pole in place of the table and some braces with a couple extra cushions. I will see if I can find the link.

The C25 guys do it all the time. Get the boat first, then you can be creative.

Good luck and all the best.

When we get our 310 home, my husband, who is a furniture designer, already has a plan to make the dinette convert to a berth. He would have to explain it, and hopefully it happens so we can document it for you.

The November 2008 issue of Mainsheet Magazine in the technical section for the 310 has a "how-to" on making the table into a berth. You can contact the author at nssailing@cableone.net. He has offered the project plans to anyone who is interested. Another good reason to join the association and receive Mainsheet every quarter.

I probably have that issue in the box of books I took off my Catalina 30. Thanks for that piece of info. I will definitely be joining the day I settle on it. I was a member of the 30 Association and got a lot of great info from there.

Thanks!
