Main Salon Hatches

When I purchased my boat [30' fractional rig '89] a few years ago, the main salon hatch was cracked ... I found out that the prior owner had had a heart attack on boat, and EMTs stepped on hatch and cracked it! In lieu of repairs [the hatch and sundry other items], I accepted an "allowance" [twice the sum would not have covered the list!]. In any case, I have been nursing this thing for the last three seasons, and after the inordinate amount of snow we had this past year, the hatch has gaps in it, and must be replaced or repaired. Here in the Annapolis area, we had a company, Ocean Outfitters, who carried consignment stuff as well as overruns and odd lots of gear, etc. LAST fall [before snow] OO had these 10" replacements for $50. I didn't get one! The same snow that did my hatch in, also did OO in! I went to buy a hatch this spring, and the D--M place had caved in from the heavy snow! No hatches, no contact. Have since gone to a marine plastics place to see how much to have it repaired ... $100 PLUS! I need direction and guidance on how to get my hatch replaced or repaired ... Any ideas?

Chances are....

that you have a Bomar/Pompanette hatch...do one of two things here...contact Hunter direct and get the part number for the hatch lense, and/or contact Pompanette and they should have the lense/adhesive to replace...good luck!! should be about $70.00 (maybe more). Even if you have to pay more, better to use the original parts supplier than some plastics company.

Hatch replacement

I have replaced all of the hatch plexiglass on my 43, including portlights. I used a very good local plastics supplier who managed to get hold of offcuts, reducing the cost for some of the smaller hatches. My forward hatch is a 24" x 24" Lewmar which was replaced with Lexan. The do it yourself approach worked well for me - it depends upon how good your local plastics suppliers are.
