i need a new main for my 1984 hunter 31. i have a quote from uk sailmakers out here for $1998 which includes measuring and installation(7.5 ounce,4 full battens, single reef, logo & phrf numbers). the online quote from the hunter store for a doyle sail is $1566 and the only difference is 7 ounce fabric from doyle.so my questions are. Does anyone have any experience with these sails? are they worth the $400+ savings?i kind of like the idea of uk coming out to measure it. the online specs call for a slightly different "I" measurement than my owners manual. is this critical? thanks, bob

You might want to try somerset

I just called to get a price for my 31, they will make a Main with 4 full battens and two reef points 7.5 cloth-for $1130.00! A 145% head sail $1200.00!! 6.5 cloth I have seen their work and it is great!!!

Doyle reputation is excellent on this site

I bought the Doyle semi-full batten, loose-footed main (same product but from the local loft.) It's simply a great sail. Increased speed in medium winds between 1-1.5 knots, and reduced heel by 5 degrees. I, too like having a local sailmaker, but the Doyle people on this site have a reputation of taking care of us. Doyle here

Just sharing my experience - I bought a new full batten mainsail from Doyle here on this site 2 years a go. You just need to do some measuring yourself so they're sure to build a sail custom for your boat. Doyle makes a top notch high quality product. I'm very pleased with my decision. In any case, you'll be amazed at the performance improvement with a new mainsail! Best of luck, Trevor
