Hello: My father and I have bought a hunter sloop 27 year 1981. I already have a sunfish boat and I have experience with catamaran hobbie cat 16 and laser boat. We bought the boat but she has no mainsail. We have investigated about main sails. The salesman offer us a main sail made in the USA with some of the following characteristics: 4 full battens, webbed luff on slides to attach the main sail to the mast, 1 area reef, reinforced corners, etc. I have read that some mainsails come with a rope sewed in the sail between the clew and the front of sail (along the edge that is close to the boom). This part of the sail is introduced in the boom and then it has to be moved to the clew. I would like to know if this kind of main sail is suitable for a hunter 27 year 1981 or if it is better a main sail without this rope. Thanks for your help and advice. Fernando. Caracas - Venezuela.

Footless Mainsail

I,too, have a 1981 27. I would like to replace the main and foresail in the next couple of years. When I spoke to a local sailmaker for a quote it was for a footless mainsail. He said most sailmakers now only manufacture this style. I hope this helps and I hope to sail Venzuela when I go blue water. Good Sailing s/v "LOTUS"

Thanks

Hello: I would like to say "thanks" to John Lynch of Minnesott Beach Yacht Basin. It was a very quick answer. I hope you could sail to Venezuela. I recommend you to go to Puerto La Cruz. Bye. Fernando.

Footless

I have a H30 and just bought a new main - It also was footless. Atlantic Sailtraders who made the sail suggested this type of sail and it is fine. They will however make the sail in any style you want. High quality - low price. Good luck
