Is there a way to repair the broken slides on the main sail ? Guess Father Time and UV has deteriated mine as three near the top broke yesterday. I have searched the forum and found one post which I can't seem to pull up. Hope you all can help with this issue as I hate to purchase a $900+ new sail. I may need one but other priotries exist and would love to get her back on the water with a quick and cheap repair if possible...Thanks for any assist/recommendations you can provide...AJ

Can't imagine a way to repair the broken ones other than to buy new slides and sew them on. I suppose you could do that yourself, buying them from any online supplier, like this site. Barring that, you can ship the sail to a loft.

Exactly. Do-It-Yourself. While it looks like a solid piece, with a couple of needle nose pliers you can open the clamp that holds the slider to the sail. There is a bail that sits in a keyhole that must be pushed out to open that clamp.

I've replaced the all plastic slugs supplied by Hunter with the Nylon/Stainless ones because the sun does make the plastic brittle.

The Sailmakers Apprentice, The best $25 I ever spend on my boat.
Everything from theory to repair and canvas work. Absolutly amazing how much money you can save when you have this book.

Thanks All, I couldn't find the slides on this site, I should of Googled them also..Metal replacements would be great..Actaually went sailing with 4 broken slides yesterday as the boat was left in the water overnight...I thought up a quick fix while sailing that I haven't tried, how about using a large plastic wire tie ( 1' version) through the slide hole and loose around the mask so you could still raise/lower the sail. It would have been an emergency fix as you would have to cut them to remove the sail...again, appreciate the help and support.

Your fix sounds fine for a stopgap to keep you sailing. Ties are pretty cheap and you can either get the really wide ones or double up on them.
I'd try the sailrite.com site for all your sewing notions.

Ditto on sailrite.com. The link below will show you videos on everything you need to know. All you have to do is select the right slug and decide how you want to attach it. If you select sewn webbing installation for your slug, even a local awning, tarp, or truck cover company can sew the webbing onto your sail. Shouldn't be very pricey. BrianW

Mine just snapped apart, I went to a sail maker and bought a few new ones. I think they were less than $.50 a piece. They just snapped on again. I would take a broken one with you for no other reason than grins and giggles.
