Anyone well read in sail technology and arrangement? As a youth I sailed a catamaran which had a fully battened large main sail and a smaller jib. To me this is a standard sloop rigging. Recently I returned to sailing after 18 years and own a Hunter 25 sloop. I'm wondering why the main on this boat is so small? The normal jib (not Genoa) is actually larger than my main sail. Is there a design reason? Can I consider buying a larger main sail, my boom is large enough to accomodate a bigger sail. Any ideas, comments annecdotes or expertise appreciated, thank you.

Pointing / Driving

Your Hunter 25, like a lot of masthead rigs, uses the mainsail to point, and the jib to drive the boat. The jib/genoa is simly the engine of the boat. Unless you have a lot of lee helm, you do not need a larger mainsail. Tim

OEM?

Is the mainsail original, or did the PO bend on a bargain sail that's too small?
