The PO of our M26S added 3/4 inch grommets to the leech of the main sail. They are spaced approximately 2 1/2 feet apart and there are 5 of them - starting from the clew. The bottom two had lengths of 1/2 line about 2 feet long terminating with a 2 inch SS ring. Any idea as to what their purpose is? The top 2 have ripped out of the sail and the next ones are "on their way". Seems to me that any flogging/luffing will just spit these things out. There is no reenforcing - and I found a bag of the same grommets and the installation dies with the boat (confirming the PO theory). If these have a purpose, I'll have proper reenforcing added - if not, I'll get the holes patched. Any ideas? Thanks, Chris

Sounds like a homemade reefing system

Or maybe a homemade way to contain the mainsail when it is down on the boom.
