Main sail in mast

I purchased Hunter 33 2006 a couple of months ago and learned the workings of the boat through trial and error. The previous owner always had a captain who did all the work. I am having trouble getting the sail to wind properly in the mast and had to have someone stand at mast to start the feed then all goes well. The sail appears to bunch up at the base which prohibits the sail from winding up. I have tried to raise the sail a couple of inches but it will not move. Any suggestions will be appreciated .

Is your boom lowered to the arch? It should be level and be just above the arch. Whats the shape of your sail.. The luff should be taught and not sagging in the mast.

Thanks for the reply. The boom is level and I do have a bit of luff by boom. I am in CA and when I get back to Fl I will post a picture.

Halyard

Is the Halyard nice and tight or check and put a few wraps around
the winch to make sure.
Pull the main sheet tight to get boom to almost touch the arch and put the out haul around the winch 1 or 2 wraps and use the furling line to furl in the main sail,is the continuous line port side winch in cockpit turning the winch on the mast.

I also have a 2006 Hunter. It's a 41 and came with in mast furling and a stretched Doyle main sail. It was very particular on how you needed to furl and unfurl. I'm attaching a picture so you can see the crescent shaped wrinkles along the foot. This was an indication of the sail bulking up in the mast due to being stretched. If you have indications like this I would suggest contacting a local sail maker and buying a laminated sail that will not stretch for the life of the sail.

I suggest you try running the sail in and out a few times at the dock on a calm day. Be sure you are furling it in on the starboard side. Keep an eye on the sail as it is going in, if there are any folds stop and figure out why it is happening.

We found out when furling I release the tension on the vang and mainsheet so the boom can go up and down as needed. This will equalize the tension on the foot and luff of the sail as tension is maintained on the outhaul. For us this seems to minimize any wrinkles and allows the sail to go in and out easily. It seems each boat and sail is a bit different.
